The concept of an Internet based electronic medical record (EMR) that is patient managed, timely and relevant has reached fruition in the PulszCardtm', developed by James J. Purdy, MD FACOG. The concept allows a fresh medical report of a patient to be faxed and /or emailed in PDF format as well as viewed on a local computer screen. PulszCardtm is a result of research and development by Dr. Purdy for over a decade. The project's elements evolved as the Internet matured over a decade. PulszCardtm's purpose has always been patient care through quality innovation. PulszCard reflects its creator Dr. James J. Purdy. Who is Dr. James J. Purdy? He was born in Hancock, Michigan, a city near the Canadian border on Lake Superior. His early years prior to college were spent in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He graduated from Brother Rice, a Christian Brother's high school in Birmingham, Michigan. After graduation, he attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he met his wife Sherry. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1971. Following medical school, Dr. Purdy moved his family to New Orleans, Louisiana where he completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the United States Public Health Service in 1975. He achieved the rank of Lt. Commander in the service (USPHS). After residency, he settled with his young family in the great state of Mississippi. The city is Meridian. Meridian is home to Naval Air Station, Meridian. Dr. Purdy's family grew as his practice grew; he and his wife have raised six children and presently have eleven grandchildren. He has a passion for life, a compassion for all people and a keen interest in using the latest technology to improve the lives of individuals. He has helped several generations of families from east central Mississippi and west central Alabama and he has delivered new life into their world. Dr. Purdy has been a specialist in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology for over 30 years; he is an innovator in his field of medicine. With aviation skills and his passion for flying, Dr. Purdy has taken many maternity patients in distress to tertiary medical centers in the Gulf South for acute care. These flights were voluntary "Life Guard" flights as defined by the FAA. Many individuals are alive because of these initiatives. He was one of the first doctors in Mississippi to utilize office laser surgery in the field of ambulatory gynecology. He introduced electronic fetal monitoring to the Rush Foundation Hospital in the mid 1970's. He developed the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush Foundation Hospital. He co-developed same room maternity care (LDRP). He helped introduce advanced operative laparoscopic surgery in the 1990's to his community. He has been involved in cutting edge therapy with hyperbaric (oxygen) medicine and wound care to help improve quality of life in the aging population. He is a lecturer for Forest Pharmaceutical Corporation as a physician speaker for Lexapro, lecturing to Ob/Gyn and family medicine physicians across several states. He has served on the board of one of Meridian's private schools (Lamar), been active in his church and taken part in various other community events. He is a board certified fellow of the American college of Ob/Gyn since 1977. He has held the positions of chief of the Ob/Gyn departments in two out of the three hospitals in his community (Rush Foundation Hospital and Riley Hospital). He is past Chief of Staff at Riley Hospital and also a member of the board of trustees at Riley Hospital. He is on staff for many years at the University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Purdy has held a position in the past as Associate Professor of Ob/Gyn at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He has served on a physician review board for United Health Insurance Company of Ohio. On December 9, 2008 he introduced to Meridian, Ms and East Central Mississippi /West Alabama the concept of Minimal Invasive Surgery (MIS) by means of robotic surgery. Since that time, Dr. Purdy has been appointed Chief of Robotic Surgery for all departments at Rush Foundation Hospital. He is also a procotor to teach physicians across the country in robotic gynecologic surgery using the Intuitive Surgical system. He is the founder of Pampered Bodies Day Spa in Meridian, Mississippi.
